The National Cadet Corps (NCC) in India is set to have the highest number of girl cadets in the Republic Day Camp 2024. A total of 2,274 cadets from all 28 states and eight Union Territories will participate in the month-long camp, with 907 girls, marking the largest participation of girl cadets. This year's Republic Day parade will feature a women's contingent for the first time, with the NCC now boasting a 39% participation rate of girls. The BJP in Karnataka launched protests against the arrest of a Hindu activist in connection with the commotion during the agitation for a Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya in 1992. The activist, Srikant Poojari, was arrested by the Hubballi-Dharwad police and the BJP accused the ruling Congress of intentionally reopening a 31-year-old case just days before the consecration of the Ram temple. BJP leaders staged demonstrations in several parts of the state demanding Poojari's immediate release.
